Photographer Research - Saskia Sandrock

Saskia Sandrock;

Research: The photographer that I researched was Saskia Sandrock. Saskia Sandrock is a lifestyle photography and content creator from Berlin-Friedrichshain. Since 2010 she has been working under the name "Oh Hedwig" as a photographer and blogger in the field of lifestyle. In her work she protrays a natural and emotional style, she helps creatives and brands to realize their visions and to develop a coherent overall concept with her pictorial language. Most of her work is inspired by mountains, nature and music and incorporate natural as well as nostalgic elements into her photographs. Most of her images are shown in a modern and minimalist style portraying the more clam and peaceful side to country life.

This photo has been taken of two potted plants in front of a window, this allows natural light to come in through the windows and frame the image, it also creates shadows which highlights contrasts and allows bright colours to show through from the background outside and the potted plants. I think the photographer has used Photoshop to bring out the lighting in the image and to portray the photo as a minimalist and naturally styled image that shows strong emotions of peacefulness and contentment. I like the artist use of line and lighting elements in the photo and I believe it represents the topic 'windows' well as they are a key feature in this image to frame the photo, perhaps the message the artist is trying to send is that by allowing the outside world to come in it can create new perspectives and highlight potential positives in their life.

Photo Two;

2.PNG

This photo has been taken from the inside of a building located in Belgium, the image was taken from the inside of the building to use the window as a way to frame the image and help feature the buildings outside the window as well as the range of colours portrayed by the sunset. I like how a part of the window has been opened so an area of the background is clear compared to the closed areas which are misty, I believe this allows the photo to feature key elements such as line, perspective and curve.

Photo Three;

3.PNG

I like this photo as it has been taken in a minimalist style using natural lighting, the whole image has a white tone to it and clearly features old fashion windows and open door that allows light into the decorated room, I think this has been done to show a representational perspective that by allowing the light into your life good things will happen. I think the artist has achieved this image by physically manipulating the area and using a adjustable exspouser setting to make sure that the natural lighting does not interfere with the image itself.  In my own work I will try to include similar techniques the photographer has used such as  lighting, line and shape.

Photo Four;

4.PNG

This photo shows the reflection from a side view mirror from the inside of a car from behind the side window, the image itself includes a stunning background of the natural country side, you can also notice the side of the steering wheel and the frame of the car window in general. I think the photographer has achieved this image by using elements such as form, reflection and key camera focusing techniques, I like the use of deft of wide field and the reflection seen from the window. The only thing I might change when doing my own photo-shoot is the surrounding area and the setting in which the image is taken in.

Overall;

The above images portray Belgium culture and shows a bright and naturally light atmosphere, I think the main style the artist achieves in these images by aiming for a simply style which features something unique in each image, this allows viewers to show their perspectives in what messages are being sent by these images, I believe that the photos above reveal emotions of peace and gentleness, showing people what life is like on the other side of the window/mirror.

I gained inspiration from this by producing my own images based on windows which I ended up editing to be more contrasted and some to be brighter to help represent the photographers own work.
